2002 Audi TT antenna amplifier repair.
Symptoms:
Low AM sensitivity, static. Reception gets better for a minute if you hit the break pedal, turn on rear glass heater or turn signals.
Definitely the radio signal is mixed somewhere with the power ground path.
Repair steps:
1. Remove the hatch trim.
It is easy to pull out the front and side areas but be careful with the back. It has additional sliding plastic connections with another hatch trim.
2. Remove the amplifier.
The problem in my case was the output connector crimped to the amplifier body.
This crimp got loose by the seventh year of car driving and the output cable to the radio had just lost its ground (shield) connection continuity.
I have decided to fix the loose connection using conductive epoxy and to duplicate the shielding connection to ground by additional direct wire.
